City condemns threats against security personnel as Town Two clinic prepares to reopen

The City of Cape Town condemns in the strongest possible terms the criminal intimidation and threats that led to the temporary suspension of services at the Town Two Clinic in Khayelitsha.

Serious threats were made against security personnel at the facility, and the matter was reported to the South African Police Service.

The safety of patients, staff and security personnel remains the City’s number one priority, and services were suspended to ensure that appropriate safety measures could be put in place.

The City expects the clinic to reopen on Monday, 16 February 2026 subject to final safety checks and the implementation of appropriate protocols based on a risk assessment.

‘We strongly condemn threats against security personnel and any disruption of services to a vulnerable community. No criminal elements can be allowed to hold essential services to ransom. We know how important this clinic is to residents, and we thank the community for their patience while we worked to ensure it is safe to reopen. Our priority is always the safety of patients, staff and security personnel, and we are doing everything possible to restore services safely and sustainably,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.

While the facility has been closed, City Health has taken steps to ensure that residents continue to receive care.

A mobile clinic has been operating at the Metro Police offices in Mandela Park, issuing chronic medication to clients enrolled in adherence clubs and to those scheduled to collect patient medicine parcels through the Chronic Dispensing Unit (CDU) partnership.

Immunisation and reproductive health services have also been provided, and residents have been referred to nearby clinics where necessary.

Residents with any information that could assist the investigation are urged to report it to the South African Police Service.

The City will continue to keep the community informed as services resume.
